Local libraries are wonderful! You can borrow books for free – plus they host fantastic events throughout the year (gratis). Make sure you check your local library for awesome events.

Barnes & Noble
Barnes & Noble hosts numerous author and book events throughout the DC area (free).

Book Festivals
Keep in mind all of the amazing (and free) book festivals in the DC area.

Culture Capital
Metro DC literature, prose and poetry events in the DC area (think G.W., museums, etc) to include author readings, book signings, panel discussions, book, and literary festivals.

Duende District Bookstore
Duende District’s mission is to bring a highly inclusive and pleasurable general bookstore experience in Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas, serving a multicultural community with an equally multicultural ownership/staff, and all are welcome.

East City Bookshop
This bookshop’s mission is to provide community-oriented events and support for the literary arts at every reading level.

Folger Theatre Events
The Folger Shakespeare Library hosts a wide variety of events, performances, and activities, from theater to literary readings to family activities and more (most are not free).

Kramerbooks & Afterwords
From wine tastings in their bar (yummy) to author readings in the bookstore, there is something for everyone.

Library of Congress
The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world and offers loads of events to the public free of charge, except where otherwise noted. Schedules are subject to change so make sure you check their website for the latest and most current information.

Loyalty Bookstore
This pop-up bookstore in the heart of Silver Spring, MD highlights the diverse voices and creatives that make our communities great.

This bookstore takes pride and is dedicated to meeting the literary needs of readers in search of books written for, by, or about people of the African Diaspora.

Old Town Books
This bookstore emphasizes community engagement through book clubs, author events, writers groups, and workshops. They also have the most adorable bookshop dog, Scout.

Politics & Prose
This awesome bookstore features loads of great literary and author events (they also serve food and wine). Be sure to check them out!

Sixth & I
This historic synagogue offers numerous literary and author events (not free).

Solid State Books will be the nexus for all of these diverse groups, engaging the community through our slate of dynamic programming and an unparalleled bookstore experience

Also, don’t sleep on used book sales at thrift shops or libraries. I always find great books (some are new) at incredible prices.
